OET – Occupational English Test

For healthcare professionals such as doctors and nurses, passing the OET exam with a grade B or higher certifies full  proficiency in English and opens the door to working abroad in English-speaking countries such Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Canada and the UK.

Even for healthcare professionals who do not wish to work abroad, preparing for the OET offers many advantages. As the exam is highly practical, you will have the opportunity to practise English in a relevant context and feel confident dealing with English speaking patients and their families.

Passing the OET with a grade B requires a general English level of C1 (advanced). If you are interested in preparing for the test, contact me for a free level assessment. Depending on your current level, I can recommend courses  of varying length so that you can be sure of passing the exam at the first attempt.

IELTS – International English Language Testing System

The IELTS exam is recognised all over the world as proof of English language proficiency.

This test evaluates your level of English on a scale from 1 to 9.  A mark of 7 corresponds to a level of C1 and is the most common requirement for being admitted to a university course in an English speaking country.

The IELTS exam is also recognised by Australia for purposes of immigration (7 or higher) and the acquisition of work visas (4.5).

Cambridge English Exam

Unlike the IELTS which is a test covering all levels, the Cambridge English exams target a particular level and are divided into 5 separate tests

A2 – KET.  (Key English Test)   Elementary

B1  – PET. (Preliminary English Test)  Intermediate

B2 – FCE (First Certificate) – Upper intermediate

C1 – CAE  (Advanced Certificate) – Advanced

C2 – CPE (Proficiency) – Proficiency

These are pass/fail exams and consist of 4 papers each:

  1. Reading and Use of English
  2. Listening
  3. writing
  4. speaking

By passing the CAE (C1), you demonstrate that you are able to communicate in English in a very effective manner on a professional level and that you possess the linguistic competence to participate in international meetings or undertake academic studies at universities in English-speaking countries.
